Common Questions

Please reach me at bauerlerachelle@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question or would like to learn more.

The County Clerk Recorder is an elected official responsible for maintaining and safeguarding important public records. These include vital records (like birth, death, and marriage certificates), property documents, and official government filings. The Clerk Recorder also plays a role in local elections, notary services, and business filings.

As part of their many responsibilities, County Clerks handle local voter registration programs, train election judges, select polling places, get ballots printed, oversee Election Day activities, and supervise the vote count while adhering to established guidelines. To protect election integrity, the County Clerk must ensure that voter registration rolls are accurate and up-to-date, ballot information is correct, election judges are appropriately trained, polling places are safe and secure and the vote count is accurate before an election can be certified. Starting in the months leading up to an election, the Clerk must ensure deadlines are met and every detail is correct. Any deviation can lead to distrust of our elections and potentially disengagement of voters.

Another way the County Clerk can increase confidence in our elections is through engagement and education. From voter registration drives to speaking to local students, the Clerk can build interest in getting involved in the elections process and answer questions that people may have.

The office maintains:

  • Birth and death certificates
  • Marriage licenses and certificates
  • Property deeds and real estate records
  • Fictitious business name (DBA) filings
  • Notary public registrations
  • Public official oaths and bonds

The Recorder manages official documents, deeds and land records, while the Clerk handles birth and death certificates, civil marriage ceremonies, business filings, notary commissions, and election duties.
